The Right Divine of Kings to Govern Wrong! — an electronic edition
William Hone's Right Divine of Kings to Govern Wrong! (1821) is a heavily edited and partially rewritten version of Daniel Defoe's Jure Divino (1706). This electronic edition of Hone's poem consists of several different electronic files:
- The Editor's Introduction offers a brief historical background for understanding the contexts in which Hone wrote and published the Right Divine.
- The links labeled Front Matter, Books I, II, and III, and Back Matter will display Hone's poem formatted in HTML. The Front and Back matter pages include Cruikshank's title-page and closing illustrations.
- The TEI markup link will display the single TEI-conformant XML file from which the HTML pages were generated. Depending on the browser and browser settings, it may be necessary to click the "View Source" option to see the TEI markup.
A textual note at the end of the introduction explains the origins of this diplomatic edition in greater detail.
