British Library, Add. MS 40120, ff. 321-22. In an effort to pull himself and his family out of financial difficulties, Hone was able to secure contracts to perform editorial services for publishers such as Thomas Tegg and, in this case, Samuel Lewis. The present contract draws on Hone's expertise as an antiquarian as well as his abilities as an author. The resulting work—A Topographical Dictionary of England—was published in 1831 by Samuel Lewis.[return]
