William Hone to William Upcott, 19 June, 1822

[1780-1818] - [1818-1824] - [1825-1832] - [1832-1842] - Hone Correspondence

1. William Hone to William Upcott, 19 June, 1822. 1-TEI-

My dear Sir

1.1.1.

My correspondence with Mr. Cruikshank has been almost exclusively personal, and, as I intimated, I have no letters of his with his autograph, except of an entirely private nature - however I wrote him a note which has produced the enclosed - not without some effort on his part for he dislikes letter writing even more than I do. I was obliged to see the dog about it even after I wrote him for it.

I beg one favor of you which I hope if an opportunity occurs you will remember - that as I earnestly desire to possess the hand writing of honest Daniel De Foe, if you ever meet with a letter of his besides the two you already possess, and which you cruelly determine to keep for fix fashion, I beg you will secure it for me at any price you please - he was one of the only order of nobility on this earth for which I entertain any respect

I am My dear Sir
Yours faithfully
W Hone
W. Upcott Esq.
